Free iTunes Album
Reading up on the new iPod Shuffle, I found a link to a free iTunes Album of mixed songs. This is meant for new iPod owners, but will work for any iTMS ‘member’ (i.e. you’ve signed up in iTunes Music Store).

Sounds like a pretty good cd by a variety of artists: Future Soundtrack for America [iTunes link]
Pink Panther’s Penthouse Party is a pretty groovy little CD I picked up at a local record shop in Ferndale. I had heard it originally in their big “try me” bin, and they just had a used copy for sale.
Not too shabby for kinda groovin’ & codin’. Gives you a little bit of the campy fifties with a more modern beat.
Unfortunately, the shop didn’t have any Plunge CD’s, so I guess I’ll just have to place an order. Plunge is a great fusion jazz kind of group with a trombonist lead, tuba player, and a drummer who is prone to play on his shaved scalp as often as not.
/. pointed me to Wired’s release of a CD with the next magazine (I hope it comes w/ my issue) of Creative Common Songs. This includes songs by such good groups as My Morning Jacket, whom I recently got introduced to at the MoveOn.org benefit Dave Matthews Band concert at the Palace.
I’m in huge favor of this kind of ‘open-sourcing’ of creative works. It helps get people involved with creative endeavors without having to know how to play a bunch of instruments/film/photograph. This is similar to the open competition to re-edit and provide a sound-track for a test plane crash which realized some good efforts.
