Vote for the Neocartography Panel at SXSW

Published in Conference

SXSW Interactive MapLooking over the panel submissions for SXSW Interactive I was quite disappointed with the geo-based panels and presentations. Primarily simple discussions of location-based services, geotargeted ads, etc.

Therefore, I quickly put together a submission and got last minute approval to submit a topic idea on next generation geospatial visualization and usability. I titled it Neocartography based on the discussion we had at WhereCamp on converging traditional cartographic techniques with modern digital and hypermedia interfaces. It’s also deliberately slightly controversial of a name in order to attract attention and interest to the panel.

For the lineup – already have Mike Migurski of Stamen and Aaron Straup Cope of Flickr, two obvious choices due to their incredible flexing of modern mapping tools. Other panelists potentially include Paul Sm ith of EveryBlock, Nathan Yau of Flowing Data, Andy Woodruff of AxisMaps.

You only have until Monday (Labor Day) to vote. So please, vote early and vote often!
